Summary: Create a script which takes data from an RSS feed parser (such as simplepie or other) and automatically add posts to my bookmarking website.
Background: My website is based in PHP and purchased from the following source: https://www.phpsoftpro.com/php-social-bookmarking-script.php. Currently, users submit links to the website manually which will then be added as a post for commenting. I would like to take the manual part out and simply have the articles automatically added as they appear on the RSS feed of desired websites.
The primary domain I would like to focus on at the moment is Yahoo.com. I would like to be able to take the following RSS feeds and add them directly to the following categories on my site:
The following data should be extracted and used to create the post on my site:
1) The article title
2) thumbnail image (if available)
3) Description/summary
4) Category
It is my understanding that the job will consist of three parts:
1) use/installation of a feed parser
2) a new script which takes the info from the XML, checks to see if anything has been added since the last time it was checked, and automatically adds the new content to my site's database
3) set up a cron job to perform the task on a set schedule.
Please include references to any similar work you may have performed in the past.
