I'm a retired software architect with vast experience in C#, SQL Server, Javascript (and various frameworks), etc.
But I never really got into C/C++ at all. Right now I want to make an Atari 5200 emulator (there's never been a complete one after over 20 years), but after several hours I really can't figure out how to even compile the Atari800 library code on Windows, even with WSL Ubuntu.
What I would like is an hour of your time just to get started with the toolset, since C/Linux always seems to have unwritten assumptions about how to do stuff. This is unlike .NET where you download a project and just hit Build and it seems to work almost every time.
So I would like to have you Zoom in and help me get it compiled on my machine (typing everything myself will help me remember better). After that, I might ask for help here or there if you have game development experience.
Also, do you have experience with SDL2 and multiple platforms? I would like to use SDL2 to write everything since I will just be blitting the screen memory onto the canvas and it provides all the input control and sound output stuff too, although I'm sure you've dealt with playing sampled sound as well in the past.
