Hurricane Intel is seeking a skilled backend developer to help us transition our existing Wix-based system to a more centralized database infrastructure, likely using Firestore so that we can move to a different frontend, likely FlutterFlow.
Our current system involves a Wix website with dynamic content served from a Wix database and static images from an AWS S3 Bucket. There's a backend server (an AWS EC2 instance running Ubuntu) with PHP scripts that processes an RSS feed from the NHC (National Hurricane Center) with advisories and overview updates, parses the data, generates image files, and uploads them to S3. This system also calls the APIs on Wix to update the Wix database, calls the Twitter API to send out tweets, and sends emails to a Mailgun listserve.
We're aiming to enhance our offering by expanding upon the data parsing and processing. We are looking for a developer who can help us execute this transition smoothly and improve upon our existing system.
You will be able to speak with the people that built the system, but they are no longer officially on the project and don't have a lot of time, so you will need to be good at figuring out systems without a lot of close guidance.
Needed experience includes working with PHP, AWS (S3 and EC2), API Integration (Twitter API, Mailgun), RSS Feed Parsing, and Firestore Database.
There is the potential for ongoing work as we continue to grow and improve our system.
