Project Overview: We are a company that runs a successful Christmas fundraising project in which we sell Christmas gifts featuring children’s original artwork to primary schools across the UK. Currently, we collaborate with over 1200 schools, and we are now looking to expand our offerings by creating a range of school leavers books. These books will be aimed at primary schools and will serve as a fun, customizable keepsake for pupils as they move on to their secondary schools.
Objective: To design a range of school leavers books that are vibrant, engaging, and customizable for primary schools. The books should be flexible in terms of content, allowing teachers to easily edit and personalize them for their specific school. The overall tone should be fun, interesting, and memorable while maintaining practicality and ease of use.
Target Audience: Primary school teachers and school administrators Primary school pupils (typically aged 10-11) Parents who wish to purchase a keepsake for their child’s time at primary school Scope of the Project:
The book will be approximately 30-36 pages long. It should offer a variety of designs, ranging from contemporary and modern to bright and colourful, to appeal to different school preferences.
The design should include modular, easy-to-edit sections so that teachers can adapt the content for their specific school.
The book must highlight various sections such as: Year 6 Trip: Dedicated pages to commemorate class trips, with space for photos and memories. Teacher and Pupil Bios: Space for teachers and pupils to share short profiles or memories. Autograph Pages: A fun, interactive section for classmates to sign and leave messages. Other Ideas: Open to suggestions for additional sections that could make the book unique and interactive (e.g., favourite memories, school highlights, class quotes, etc.).
Design Aesthetic: Range of Styles: The design should cater to a variety of tastes with both modern, minimal designs and more playful, bright, and colourful options. Fun and Engaging: The design should reflect the celebratory and emotional nature of completing primary school, with playful elements that encourage kids to engage with the book. Easy to Edit: Teachers should be able to easily modify or customize text, photos, and other content sections. The layout should allow for these changes without disrupting the flow of the design. Competitor Analysis & Differentiation: While there are several established players in the school leavers book market, such as Cauliflower Group, All Year Books, SPC Yearbooks, and Leavers Books, our aim is to deliver a product that is 5% better—offering both higher quality and a more user-friendly, customizable experience.
Design Excellence: While our competitors feature strong designs, we strive to deliver a more dynamic, engaging, and versatile range of design options. Our books will combine vibrant, eye-catching visuals with a greater variety of themes, offering something unique for every school, whether they lean towards contemporary, minimalistic styles or more playful, colourful themes.
Unique Features: While competitors offer autograph pages, teacher and pupil bios, and trip highlights, we will expand upon these with interactive features that create additional fun and lasting memories. These could include features like class "top ten" lists, favourite quotes from pupils, or special activity pages tied to the school's identity. We’ll also aim to create a product that feels more premium with materials and finishing that feel both special and accessible.
Further Work Opportunities: In addition to the design work for the school leavers books, we anticipate further work for the project, including website design and marketing materials. The website will need to be intuitive, user-friendly, and reflect the engaging nature of the books. We are looking for a designer who can demonstrate a strong understanding of UX Design to ensure the online experience is seamless and enjoyable for both teachers and parents.
For the website design, we require the style to closely align with our sister brand, www.xmas4schools.co.uk, ensuring consistency in branding and aesthetic across both platforms. Experience working with similar projects and creating cohesive brand identities is essential.
