We are developing a breakthrough tidal energy system that uses a 51-metre diameter Venturi-style intake funnel, narrowing to a 12–24 metre throat housing a turbine. The structure is part of a large-scale clean energy project involving autonomous offshore infrastructure.
We now want to simulate the system’s full-scale flow characteristics, including:
- Bidirectional tidal operation (ebb and flood)
- Flow amplification through the narrowing funnel
- Pressure and velocity gradients across the turbine throat
- Full inlet-to-outlet animation, showing real-time water dynamics
This is not a toy model — we’re simulating real ocean flow into a full-size structure. The output will be used to support investor presentations, engineering reviews, and patent documentation.
Create or import 3D geometry:
- Inlet trumpet: 51 m diameter
- Throat (turbine zone): 12 m diameter
- Total length: ~100 m
- Smooth, symmetrical tapering design
2. Run CFD simulation (SimScale or equivalent):
- Tidal flow: ~2 m/s
- Simulate both directions (bidirectional flow)
- Represent turbine as a solid 12 m disc in throat to show flow constriction
- Show flow acceleration, turbulence, pressure drop, and exit stream
3. Output visuals & insights:
- High-res still images (pressure, velocity, streamlines)
- Frame-by-frame animation (PNG or MP4)
- Flow velocity and pressure data before, during, and after throat section
- Experience with Venturi flow or marine/tidal simulation
- Understanding of bidirectional inlet/outlet control
- Ability to set up gravity-based free-surface flows
Deliverables - 3D geometry files (STEP/STL)
- Simulation file setup
- Still images (pressure/velocity vectors)
- Animation of tidal flow and reversal
- Short note summarising key results (e.g., peak flow velocity) Budget We expect this job to fall in the €100–€350 range depending on experience, level of polish, and quality of visuals.
We’re open to higher offers for exceptional candidates.
This may lead to further paid work on related simulations.
Timeline Flexible — but ideally within 1–2 weeks.
To Apply Please include:
- A short note explaining how you'd approach this job
- Any examples of similar CFD or Venturi simulations you've done
- Confirmation that you can simulate bidirectional flows (tidal)
