The finished manuscript should be engaging when read aloud, age-appropriate in language, and short enough to hold a young child’s attention—think 500–700 words spread across roughly 12–14 spreads. The core of the story must be educational: the narrative should guide little listeners toward a clear moral takeaway without sounding preachy.
